Helioclock is a real-time Earth clock and situational awareness kiosk — built for ham radio operators, NOC and ops teams, and anyone who wants a living map of the planet, with alerts that break through the moment something happens.
No Single Point of Failure
Helioclock runs entirely on your own hardware. There’s no Helioclock cloud service in the loop, and no subscription to lapse. Every data feed — radar, space weather, tropical storms, lightning, earthquakes, and dozens more — is pulled directly from a broad spread of free, public government and research sources, collated and presented right on your screen. If one source has a hiccup, everything else keeps running.

Local & Remote View
Plug it into a TV or monitor over HDMI for an always-on local display, or open Remote View from any browser on your LAN – laptop, phone, tablet, even a smart TV – for a fully live, interactive copy of the same screen.
Just type helioclock.local There’s no IP address to hunt down, no app to install, no separate login. A Pi 4 or 5 comfortably handles a handful of simultaneous browser viewers; for a NOC wall or lobby with many more screens watching at once, our multi-display server is built for exactly that.
Never Miss What Matters
NWS watches, warnings, and advisories are drawn directly on the map in color, always visible during active weather. A full-width alert crawl breaks in with an audible tone the moment something happens near you. When nothing’s active, the same crawl runs a live news ticker you configure yourself — ham radio, world news, space, and weather feeds, all in one bar. Alerts always take priority over the news.
ALERTS
Color-coded warning, watch, and advisory polygons drawn right on the map, updated continuously.
CRAWL
A full-width ticker that breaks in for severe weather, then runs a news feed you configure the rest of the time.
Data Layers
Helioclock layers live data over a day/night world map: weather, space weather, tropical systems, lightning, and the ham radio propagation picture, all updating in the background so the screen is never stale.
RADAR
Animated radar overlay at four playback speeds, layered under satellite and alert data.
Real-time GOES global satellite imagery, animated the same way as radar for a true moving-sky view.
SCOPES
Three circular scope views centered on your own location — a local, zoomed-in look at live radar reflectivity, lightning strikes, and wildfire hotspots, alongside the global map.
SPACE WEATHER
Solar flux, sunspot number, K-index, and live NASA SDO solar imagery — the numbers that drive HF propagation.
GREYLINE
The day/night terminator line is tracked live — the same greyline hams chase for long-distance contacts. The greyline — the narrow band of dawn and dusk circling the globe — is where long-distance contacts open up. Helioclock tracks it continuously, alongside a DX Cluster feed, band conditions, and tools most displays don’t bother with — EME moon-bounce planning, NCDXF beacon tracking, and a full built-in desk reference.
TROPICAL
Active tropical systems from NHC and JTWC, volcanic ash advisories from VAAC and USGS, and global M4.0+ earthquakes from the past 24 hours.
WORLD
Time zones for the cities you track, a live markets panel, tide predictions, and UV index, all on the same screen.
Layers
Radar, lightning, fire, alerts, and greyline are just the headliners. Every view is built from independently toggleable layers, each with its own data source and update rate — a Maidenhead grid overlay, ISS and AMSAT satellite tracking, NCDXF beacon status, the auroral oval, wildfire hotspots, METAR weather stations, city clocks, and more. Turn on what’s useful to you, leave the rest off.
Panels
Space Weather, DX Cluster, Moon Phase, Tides, and dozens more — each lives in a sidebar panel you choose to show or hide. Click any panel for a full detail view, pin it open past the usual 30-second auto-close, or slide the whole sidebar away to see the map underneath.
